Hammerhead Bicycles
This is one of my favorite web-projects to-date. Hammerhhead Bicycles is a boutique North Austin bike shop specializing in premier high-end mountain bikes, in addition to its own line of exclusive custom frames.
In 2007, new ownership took over, determined to reach out to Austin’s vibrant cycling scene. A key aspect of this initiative would be the creation and establishment of a new, interactive web site that would not only promote the Hammerhead Bicycles brand, but that would provide previously-unavailable resources and service to the entire Austin cycling community.
The partnership resulted in a dynamic web 2.0 portal featuring discussion boards, a multi-author blog, and a network of Twitter accounts dedicated to frequent updates on local trail conditions. Another creative addition (though not a permanent fixture on the site) is a GPS- and Google Maps-enabled real-time tracking leader board for the Colorado Trail Race.
Hammerhead Bicycle’s new site features a header that combines original photography with bold, easy to follow two-tiered navigation. Powered by WordPress, the site possesses exceptional built-in search engine optimization tools and capabilities, and the user-friendly content management system allows the Hammerhead staff to manage, monitor and update the site’s content in-house. Various planned improvements are pending, including additional static content and a basic e-commerce module.
