Coldsprints

ac-spalsh

Take a fixed-gear bike, mount it on a roller with zero resistance, and get fools to pay you $5 to sprint their hardest for 20 seconds to qualify (or not in my case). Add crowd and liberal alcohol, and a jeering MC an you’ve got my fairly badass evening.

More pics, including my own epic fail.

I competed in Coldsprints this past weekend in Minneapolis as I was up there for my brother’s birthday; he made it to the semi’s out of 40+ qualifiers, I did not (though our 500m grudge match he won by a scant 14 ft.). As I live in Houston, wanted to make the Austin event but mid-week just did not lend itself.

20 seconds all-out is a lot harder than i thought it would be.

Did a lot of folk compete in Austin?

Pretty good turn out actually. With SXSW going there was some overlap – it was pretty damn fun. And you’re right 20 seconds is a lot harder than it looks.

Ha ha ha! Awesome! The chacos were a good choice. Looks like you guys had a great turnout. So that more people could watch you give birth on stage…
